Cats are among the world’s most beautiful animals, ranging from the powerful tiger to an affectionate tabby. Cats are diverse, adapting to their environment, whether it’s a jungle or a small house. This adaptability makes them ideal pets, and they fill our lives with joy and fond memories.
Grooming is a crucial part of looking after a dog, as excess hair can provide complications if their fur isn’t taken care of. Shih Tzus look like the kind of dog that would be difficult to groom, with a big fluffy coat. The truth is it’s not very time consuming if you know how to do it properly. So, here is a quick guide on how to groom your Shih Tzu, starting from a puppy all the way to an adult.
Owning a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences in the world, offering plenty of fun and timeless memories. Dogs are more than pets: they’re friends, companions and loved ones who stand by us in the most trying of circumstances and they deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. There are many wonderful breeds out there, but one of the most unique is the Eurasier, created to be the perfect family dog.
The meadow is just as I remember
vibrant with the flavour of spring
among dandelions and butterflies
your fur is grey as a winter sea
tall and proud like the Giant’s Causeway
I know you remember in a different way
all smells and snuffles
as if recalling the scent of youth
while to me it’s all colour
flashes of wrestling in Dublin dirt
furious tail wagging, slobbering
You don’t run to me like you used to
so we hobble together
following each other’s lead
dog tired, dog hearted
We stop to rest at the cliffs
your panting is my heartbeat
broken only by waves lapping
against black rocks slick
The view is our reward
we sit there
an old man and his hound
with naught but time
at our backs
and the sun on our faces
In honour of reaching 100 hundred followers I’d like to thank everyone who has liked or commented on my articles. I hope everyone has found them beneficial. With the milestone reached, I’ve decided to start accepting guest posts of animal related articles between 300 and 1000 words in length.
Guest posts can be a range of topics, from a special interest in a charity to an endangered species you want to shed more light on. Content that I’m especially interested in is anything to do with birds of prey, big cats or wolves.
It’s my hope that with guest posting we’ll be able to work in collaboration for the betterment of animals. For full submission guidelines please go here.
Protecting animals all over the world is an essential part of maintaining our environment. They face numerous threats from destruction of habitat to being hunted and killed for sport. One organisation that’s looking to defend the rights of animals in Palestine is the Palestinian Animal League who’ve recently become a part of the charity community that’s hosted by We Love Our Planet.
Being able to spend time with dogs is an incredible experience because there isn’t anything else like seeing the expression of happiness in a dog’s eyes at it runs up to greet you. I’ve seen that joy more than once while volunteering at Manchester Dog Care. During my time there I’ve been exposed to a number of dogs, from intelligent German Shepherds to affectionate Cocker Spaniels. All of them have left an impression.
What do you see when you look at a dog? I see a friend and companion who is loyal and offers unconditional love. And few breeds live up to those qualities like German Shepherds. Considered to be one of the most popular breeds in the world, German Shepherds have their origins as working dogs. This has carried on in the modern day as they are used for police work, tracking criminals and patrolling troubled areas. They are also used in the military, being trained to parachute from aircrafts.
There are many types of unique dog breeds around the world, each with their own characteristics. One of the most interesting I’ve come across recently is the Shar Pei. The breed originates from China and is recognised by the loose, wrinkled coat. They were named one of the world’s rarest dogs in 1978 by TIME Magazine and Guinness World Records. Despite Shar Peis being an ancient breed they were not recognised by the American Kennel Club until 1992.
Through volunteering at Manchester Dog Care I’ve been introduced to a wonderful breed called a German Shorthaired Pointer and here is everything you need to know on owning one. They are powerful, streamlined dogs developed in 19th century Germany as hunting companions. Their strong legs allow them to move quickly and a broad muzzle allows them to catch large game. GSPs have webbed feet that make them strong swimmers, granting them the ability to catch water fowl as well.
